We are committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by c. 2030 in the areas of Mailbox that we manage and by 2040 for everything else.

We have put into action a roadmap to achieve this, working closely with our occupiers to reach our goals. In 2021 and 2022, we were proudly voted as one of the ‘Top 5 Breathing Spaces’ in Birmingham by the Taskforce for Lung Health, bettering access to nature in the city, but we want to do more to:

  • Enhance air quality
  • Reduce electricity consumption
    and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Improve building efficiencies

To ensure the mental and physical wellbeing of our stakeholders, we have made ensuring the promotion of healthy behaviours at Mailbox a priority, as we make our amenity spaces a sanctuary for recreation and relaxation. 

  • Cycle – Cycle to work and park your bike in our secure cycle storage, complete with a bike repair station.
  • Yoga – All occupiers are invited to take part in free yoga every Wednesday.
  • Relax – Relax over your lunchtime at the Canalside, our unique outdoor space.

We cannot achieve our environmental targets without the support and participation of our occupiers; the importance of collaboration is key to minimising our environmental impact. 

  • Green Leases – We encourage our occupiers to provide sustainable fit outs and alterations, as well as working together to achieve waste and recycling commitments.
  • Living Wage – Mailbox implements Fair Living Wage policies for all staff across the asset.
  • Occupier Engagement Programme – Our Occupier Portal includes a bespoke sustainability module, encouraging collaboration on shared ESG goals.

  • Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital – In September 2026, Mailbox will once again welcome businesses from across the city to the Canalside for Birmingham Women’s & Children’s Hospital Charity’s Dragon Boat Race, aligning with Birmingham’s objective of reviving the waterway.
