Winter will be upon us soon enough, so embrace cosy nomadic hues and textures in the home, or keep it clean in timeless neutrals.
Hang on to the rust-tinted leaves of autumn with a living space filled with comforting statement pieces in rich, warm shades. Surround yourself with tactile, textured accessories like sumptuous, deep-pile rugs, animal hide cushions and natural wood furniture. Leather is a strong feature this season, but not just in the usual black – warm shades of rust add a luxurious twist. Try adding accents of copper, gold, mustard, orange and black to bring everything together.

If your living space is on the dark side, work with two dark shades and bring in one light shade, such as rust, black and cream.

Neutrals don’t have to be boring. Get it right and they don’t even need to be brightened up by splashes of colour – they do, in fact, work beautifully on their own. The trick is to pick one main shade and work around it. If you like dark, statement furniture then balance it out with a lighter coloured rug or sofa to keep your living space from feeling too oppressive. From warm creams to cool greys, you’ll find a myriad of shades to work with. If your living space is naturally bright you can afford to start with blacks and charcoals; if it’s bereft of natural light, go for pale furniture and dark accessories. Neutrals are timeless and work in all seasons – there’s a reason why Scandinavian style is so revered.
