7th November 2017
With the nights drawing in ever earlier, it may be time to refresh your wardrobe – particularly if you’re shivering over your car bonnet with an ice scraper each morning.
Although that windbreaker or mac was working fine in September, suddenly November has brought in a whole new kind of cold. For those who need a burst of inspiration, here’s our pick of the best men’s winter coats for 2017:
The Overcoat
Heritage patterns and particularly checks have been big this year in the shows, with the theme popping up everywhere from trousers to tailoring. The ‘windowpane’ check in particular has been replicated strongly across many of the big name designer brands. A slightly looser fit is one of the key ways to wear.
Men’s Grey Check Wool And Cashmere-Blend Epsom Coat by Paul Smith. £975
Biscuit Vintage Check Wool Handmade Topcoat by Gieves & Hawkes £1195
The Shearling
The Shearling is very much back in this year, with the high street churning out faux versions at a rate of knots. However, if you can afford one, an original lambskin might be the way to go, even if you do have to skip a few weekend dinners.
Men’s Brown Shearling and Lamb Leather Jacket by Paul Smith. £2200
Brown Shearling Leather Lined Coat by Armani Collezioni £2150
The Packable Down
Lightweight, yet cosy. These jackets can be folded away at a moments notice and are therefore very easy to travel with. Grab a technical waterproof variety to ensure versatility, whatever the English weather throws at you. Plus, they’re not too hard on the wallet either.
Relaxed Fit Packable Down with Technical Waterproof Fabric by BOSS £350
Packable Down Bomber by Tommy Hilfiger £165
The Shell
Capable of resisting anything thrown at it, the Shell jacket is super warm and technically capable. You can stay out all day without bother, particularly with the outer water resistant layer and insulated lining.
Black Quilted Shell Coat by Stone Island at Harvey Nichols £750
