Paul Smith is proud to announce the opening of a new shop in the newly redeveloped Mailbox in Birmingham later this month.
Paul Smith Birmingham will stock Paul Smith collections for men and women alongside an expertly curated selection of shoes, accessories, artwork and curiosities.
Taking influence from Paul Smith’s DNA of contrasting classic and contemporary, the design of the new Birmingham Mailbox shop blends old and new, rough with smooth.
White concrete walls create a neutral space that is playfully filled with found furniture influenced by the Arts and Craft movement, unusual objects and specially selected artwork. Behind the tills, a signature picture wall – a common feature of Paul Smith shops across the world – adds to the irreverent atmosphere.
In tribute to Paul’s first shop in Nottingham, a three metres by three metres square is inlaid into the shop’s floor, exactly mirroring the original dimensions.
Flashes of colour within the shop echo its confident use across all Paul Smith collections. The red shop façade that greets guests as they enter references Paul’s love of Mexican architect Luis Barragán.
“From a giant bright pink box in Los Angeles to a Victorian townhouse with a cast iron facade in London, I always try to come up with totally unique shops, wherever they are in the world”, said Paul. “What’s lovely about this one is it has a great mix of clothes and accessories for men and women, as well as a few unexpected twists and turns too!”
Simon Samuels, Partner at Brockton Capital, joint owners of the Mailbox, commented, “Our strategy for the Mailbox has been to bring world-class names to Birmingham, curating an exciting retail mix complimented by a high quality and innovative food and beverage offer.
“We know that Paul Smith will be a hugely welcomed addition to our strong and diverse fashion offer.”
