Dluxe magazine readers had the opportunity to get their hands on a special money-can’t-buy Mailbox prize last month, with the chance to win a pair of tickets to the opening night of Rebecca at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. That’s not all; the lucky winner was also able to enjoy an exclusive back-stage tour of the theatre and an invitation to the show after party alongside members of the cast – don’t say we don’t spoil you!
Marie was the very lucky winner, so we caught up with her to find out about mingling with the stars, going behind the scenes and enjoying the show…
Congratulations Marie! First things first, tell us about the show:
The show was amazing – I hadn’t read Rebecca before so didn’t know what to expect, but the show was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed it! I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s all about love, jealousy and secrets and with a phenomenal cast it really is worth a watch.
You were lucky enough to go backstage too, what did you get a sneak peek at behind the scenes?
The tour was really interesting; it’s great to see everything that goes into a production like this, from the wigs and wardrobe to the paint room and rehearsal room. It’s bigger than you expect backstage, with lots going on all the time.
Sounds great! What was your highlight of the evening?
My highlight was seeing the wig room and wardrobe – seeing all of the fantastic costumes and the intricate work and detail that goes into making each one was amazing.
And what made you enter the competition in the first place?
I love going to the theatre, but sadly don’t get to go very often. I moved back to Birmingham from Manchester five months ago so my last visit to the Rep was around 2005 – I can’t believe how much it has changed since then! I’m really keen to explore more of what Birmingham has to offer, so this was a great way to combine my love for the theatre with the opportunity to experience a fantastic night out. I’m already looking at booking tickets to come back and see Little Voice later this year.
And finally, as we gear up to unveil the exciting new Mailbox, what are you most looking forward to?
There’s so much choice at the Mailbox, which makes it great for eating out and enjoying a few drinks. I love the beautiful canal setting and I’ve heard there is further development planned, so it’s great to see the city continuing to be rejuvenated.
