18th November 2015
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Mailbox, as we’ve unveiled a series of specially commissioned, hand-crafted decorations in our brand new Urban Room.
The centrepiece is a striking 5.5m tall angel, inspired by Birmingham’s jewellery heritage. A complete re-working of the traditional Christmas tree, the angel is created from a steel framework and decorated in intricate detail with mixed materials including ribbons and velvet. In a surprising twist, the angel also features hundreds of hand-painted gold and silver pasta jewels.
Alongside the angel, shoppers can also enjoy a number of ornate Christmas cake inspired decorations throughout the Urban Room – looking good enough to eat!
Based on an original concept by Mel Chantrey, a leading arts professor, Turner Prize nominee and Creative Adventurer at Milligan, the decorations have been meticulously crafted by the award winning Bristol-based firm, Cod Steaks.
Watch this space for more information coming soon about a series of special Christmas events and activities from Saturday 28th November, including dance performances and live music.
