26th March 2021
Raise a dram to International Whisk(e)y Day! Arriving on 27th March every year, the day is used with the parenthesis to support all types of whisky around the world, whether you spell it whisky or whiskey.
Aluna’s bar manager, Callum Higginson explains why whisky is such a great base for cocktails. He says: “Whisky offers real versatility in what you can pair it with, but something fruity is a firm favourite at Aluna. Pairing the deeper flavour profile that you get with many whiskeys, with the fruity combination can add greater complexity to a cocktail”.
Why not celebrate International Whisk(e)y Day by creating the classic Old Fashioned cocktail and follow this timeless recipe from Aluna.
50ml of Bourbon
1 orange zest
2 teaspoons of brown sugar
2 dashes of Angostura bitters
- Add ice, bourbon, sugar, and bitters to a pint glass, and stir until sugar is nearly dissolved and the liquid is ice cold.
- Fill an Old Fashioned glass (Rock Glass) with large ice cubes, and strain the mixture into this glass.
- Garnish with fresh orange zest.
- Express the oil of an orange peel over the glass, then drop in.
We look forward to welcoming Aluna back soon. Why not take a look at their cocktail menu here.
