Fashion's A-List

FORMER STYLE DIRECTOR AT GRAZIA AND NOW FASHION DIRECTOR FOR HARVEY NICHOLS, PAULA REED HAS FORGOTTEN MORE ABOUT FASHION THAN MOST OF US LEARN IN A LIFETIME.

Our Fashion Editor LISA PIDDINGTON caught up with the style guru to discover which items should be gracing our wardrobes this season and who we should be watching in the future.

1: What is the most coveted item in your wardrobe? My Hermès Kelly bag.

2: What is your favourite go-to piece? A Proenza Schouler coat – it’s one of those pieces that you can just chuck on over something basic and it instantly looks great. It goes with everything.

3: Who are the rising stars of fashion, the names we’ll all be lusting after in the next couple of years? My favourites are all on the London catwalks. We are completely spoiled with talent in this country right now. I am loving Paula Gerbase’s take on tailored androgyny for 1205. I am mad for Alessandra Rich’s evening wear. And of course the likes of Roksanda Illincic, Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane, Peter Pilotto and Meadham Kirchoff are becoming international fashion forces.

4: With more than 20 years in the industry, what’s been your fashion highlight? Karl Lagerfeld’s show for Fendi on the Great Wall of China.

5: What trends should we look out for this season? I think it’s more about item dressing rather than following strict trends so for me the must-have pieces would be the baseball jacket and the parka.

6: What does Harvey Nichols do differently to other designer stores? We offer the very best of edited fashion for the style savvy customer. We pride ourselves on spotting emerging talent before anyone else. From Alexander McQueen’s unique blend of dark gothic themes to Mary Katrantzou’s signature prints, you saw it at Harvey Nichols first!
