Last week Café Rouge launched their new autumn specials menu and we were invited along to sample the new dishes!
Mark, the General Manager, told us the menu embraces new food trends and puts a spin on their traditional French menu. As fans of Café Rouge, we had pretty high expectations and couldn’t wait try each dish.
We started off with the ‘Confit Duck Burger’. The chef used a five spice and star anise rub and slowly roasted the duck for over five hours. It was perfectly pulled in a brioche bun and partnered with a creamy French smoked cheese, Raclette, transforming this already tasty burger into something really special. If you’re a fan of duck and fancy trying something a little bit different to your usual burger, you have to try this exciting dish. Mark recommends partnering this with a glass of smooth, full-bodied red Malbec wine and we have to agree, it really is the perfect accompaniment.
Next we tried ‘Le Hot Dog’. This is a french-spiced sausage made with smoked, premium pork and topped with Raclette cheese, tomato & vegetable relish, hot pickles and Dijon mustard mayonnaise. Very much in tune with the current trend for tasty street food, Le hot dog is a rustic, gourmet dish best served with ‘Leffe’ blonde beer and a side of French fries. It’s perfect for a lunchtime pitstop or casual evening meal.
Our third and final main dish was beautifully presented in a ceramic red casserole dish. The delicious ‘Beef Daube’ inside was slow-cooked until tender, served in a red wine sauce with a hint of cocoa, a celeriac puree, sugar snap peas and carrots. This dish is just what we needed on a cold autumnal afternoon and it would make the perfect treat after a busy Christmas shopping trip!
Finally we rounded off this delicious selection of main course dishes with a dessert combining an exciting array of flavours and textures. The rich, creamy chocolate ganache is topped with a dark chocolate, lime and chilli sorbet, exclusive to Café Rouge! We could treat ourselves to this dessert any day of the week.
The Café Rouge autumn specials menu is available throughout November and December.
