Style Designer at Nicky Clarke at The Mailbox
How did you get to be working at Nicky Clarke?
I started working in 2010 as an Assistant, I had always aspired to be a hairdresser and who better to work for in this industry then Nicky Clarke! I got to go to regional shows with him the first year that I started! Now four years later I’ve completed my intensive training and can’t wait to build up my clientele as a Nicky Clarke Style Designer!
What’s the best thing about working in The Mailbox?
We are currently undergoing a major reconstruction at The Mailbox. I am excited to see what the new Mailbox will have to offer in 2015! I’ve enjoyed the comfort of The Mailbox with its luxury brands, a quick browse around Harvey Nichols when I get the chance, plus a great selection of gorgeous bars and restaurants to enjoy with friends and work colleagues.
What’s the best advice you give to your clients?
Invest in the best hair care products you can afford… your hair is as important as your skin. Regular cuts are wise to renew your hair and maintain a healthy head of hair.
How would you describe your style?
My style is very versatile. My wardrobe ranges from suits from Clements & Church to a ripped pair of Topshop jeans. Because my built is quite small, I tend to get a lot of my clothes tailored. As Tom Ford says “Dressing well is a kind of good manner”
What’s your favourite meal?
I love French cuisine; so I like to go to Cote Brassiere at The Mailbox. My favourite the ‘roast sea bass’. Alongside the canal, the ambience is lovely and the service is impeccable.
Who are your icons?
One of my style icons is the International model Mariano Di Vaio, I love the way he dresses. My biggest inspiration in my life is my mother; she’s such a strong and hardworking woman and a great role model to me growing up.
Sofa or Gym?
I love getting up early and having a fresh morning run; I live near Sutton Park, which is perfect for this in the morning! I like to feel healthy both physically and mentally and believe exercise is the key to this.
What’s on your iPod?
Oh, my iPod has anything from the Backstreet boys to Madonna. I love happy upbeat music to get me in a good mood. My iPod is my essential gym item!
What’s your favourite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?
I love getting up around 10am and spending the morning chatting to my mother about the week in the salon with a coffee. Then meeting friends for lunch normally in Birmingham city centre. On to Harvey Nichols for a spot of shopping. I love films so maybe finally on to the cinema… I can’t wait for the new Everyman cinema to open at The Mailbox.
