5 minutes with: Ash Guddu from Harvey Nichols

The stunning new Harvey Nichols store has undeniably set the benchmark for the future of retail. Amongst some of the most desirable names in fashion, beauty, food and wine, you’ll find a dedicated Style Concierge team on hand to offer expert advice on seasonal trends and the latest styling tips.

So as we head into autumn, we caught up with Style Concierge Manager, Ash, to talk must-haves, layering and her dream celebrity client…

Hello Ash. First things first, tell us a bit about yourself…

I’m the new Style Concierge Manager at Harvey Nichols. I have 15 years of experience in retail and much of that time has been spent working in fashion. Originally, I wanted to be a designer and was lucky enough to get work experience with the amazing Vivienne Westwood and her team getting ready for one of her fashion shows. I realised that designing wasn’t what I wanted and instead I ventured into other areas of fashion, including styling. My role with Harvey Nichols means I oversee a team of stylists and manage all areas of the Style Concierge service.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I love the diverse range of customers we get in store and my job means I get to greet them as they walk in. I’m also connected to every part of the store, from the restaurant to international womenswear.

What’s the most common question you get asked in your role as a stylist?

“What are the latest trends and what are the new arrivals?” A lot of our customers want to be the first to get their hands on the latest must-have.

What one piece of clothing/accessory could you not live without?

My blazers. They are essential to my wardrobe and I love that I can dress them up or down. No wardrobe should be without one!

What are the key trends we should all be wearing this autumn/winter?

Layering is huge this season, especially using different textures. Kimono-style coats are also worth investing in, while head to toe whites are a surprise trend for AW15.

Who would your dream celebrity client be and why?

Victoria Beckham would be a dream. She is so fascinated by fashion and has such a keen eye that it would be amazing to work with her. Her fun personality and sense of humour would make her a wonderful client to play with fashion styles.

How would you describe the new Harvey Nichols in three words?

Stunning, welcoming, and cutting-edge.
